Winning

In the hush of the night, the screen aglow

The hours sink, but time moves slow

A labyrinth of pixels, a digital quest

A gauntlet run, put to the test

Each level fought with fleeting breath

Each for a dance with virtual death

Frustration mounts as shadows creep

Stolen moments, stolen sleep

Joystick trembling, palms so tight

Hope rekindles with morning light

And on the brink of giving in

A spark ignites – the chance to win

The final boss, the climax near

Heartbeats drum, banished in fear

With nimble moves and strategy

The screen erupts in victory

A euphoric, primal roar

Echoes off the bedroom floor

No greater joy, no sweeter theft

Than the conquest finally met

It’s not mere pixels, not just a game

But a triumph that sears the brain

A rush that rivals life’s most grand

A high that only few can understand

In that moment, supreme and pure

The world fades, addiction’s cure

And though the struggle starts once more

That fleeing bliss is worth the war

Most of us love playing games, and most of us don't take it too seriously. However, there are a few of us that likely play too much, actually having an addiction. Those games that are difficult to win, the feeling you get after spending sometimes months trying to pass, gives you the same euphoric feeling that a hit of cocaine would. Bear with me here. Our brains are doing the same thing. While different and less intense, the feeling of winning keeps you coming back for more gaming. The feeling of winning to me, is better than sex, but that's probably because sex has never really been enjoyable to me. I just felt like writing a poem about my games, as I've recently beat a game I spent a good amount of time trying to pass. :)
