Trauma's Injustice

Updated: Jun 2

In the grip of trauma’s unyielding hold

Behaviors spiral, beyond our hold

Courts pass judgment, blind to our plight

Mocking and laughing, offering no respite

Responsibility laud on shoulders frail

For what trauma’s grip does entail

Greed, power, and control obscure the line

Between what’s right and what’s malign

In shades of grey, the truth is found

Yet they see only black and white around

Justice obscured by a skewed sight

Leaving the wounded to fight their plight

Our actions are closely linked to our physical selves, emotions, and current circumstances. When stuck in a perpetual fight-or-flight mode, one’s behavior is beyond one’s control. It is crucial for me to seek forgiveness from both myself and others for events that were influenced by circumstances beyond my control during the thirty-four years of operating in survival mode. Despite efforts to move forward, the weight of intense guilt continues to burden me.

The courts have a rigid perspective, only seeing things in terms of guilt or innocence. They often hold individuals responsible for actions they had no control over. The justice system is flawed, with inconsistent adherence to the law. People are expected to take responsibility for their actions, even if they don’t fully comprehend them. Bias, discrimination, and numerous flaws are pervasive in the system, undermining the notion of “protect and serve.”

There will be more about this in later blogs.
