Pride

Updated: Jun 2

In a world where right must be upheld

A mother’s pride stays tightly shelled

To admit a fault, a burden to bear

Seems heavier than the tenderest care

But hush, dear daughter, your heart’s true cry

Your feelings matter, they reach the sky

For in the midst of her intractable claim

Your truth and essence kindle a flame

Excuse you? No, it’s her who falters here

In her determined pride, love’s voice unclear

Your worth is vast, your feelings true

Hold onto them, they’re a part of you

I long for my mother to experience the freedom of letting go of her pride and stubbornness. I yearn for her to come to me with an apology. While I believe in the potential for anyone to change, I must let go of my hope in order to spare myself further pain.
