Mileage Reimbursement

I don't have a poem to share today, but rather a resource. If you are on Medicaid, call your HMO, and if you have straight Medicaid, call the number on the back and ask about mileage reimbursement, or transportation to medical appointments. I have utilized both. The rides to and from appointments can be frustrating, and I've personally experienced being left at appointments for sometimes six hours. Once in which my therapist ended up taking me home after the six hours. However, I had no other option. I was determined to get myself better both physically and mentally. The mileage reimbursement was the most helpful. My current HMO pays about .47 per mile to and from the doctor. When I didn't have a car, I offered people gas money. None of them accepted it, but I offered. The only drawback, is you must file each claim separately, and often wait two months to receive a check in the mail. BUT, it's money you wouldn't have without it. People don't realize, and I didn't until recently either, what actually goes into utilizing the resources available for those in need. It's not as easy as getting gas money. It's hard, frustrating, but it has to be done for someone of us just to survive. There's no link I can give here, as it varies by each insurance company. But highly worth checking into.
