I See You

Updated: Jun 3

I understand the struggles you’re going through

Feeling different and unique, not knowing what to do

Wanting acceptance and love, yet craving solitude

It’s okay to feel this way, your feelings are not crude

You don’t have to beg for love and affection

You deserve understanding without objection

It’s okay to feel lonely and seek companionship

But needing space is not a character slip

We all have moments of conflicting emotion

Yearning for connection and seeking devotion

Remember, being different is truly a gift

And those who understand will give your heart a lift

Embrace your uniqueness, let your light shine through

The ones who truly see you, will love all that is you

I don't know exactly how my son is handling living through what he did with me and our family dynamics. His father's family are strong people, so he may have a better chance than I did. I do however, see a lot of similarities, and from what I hear, he speaks and thinks a lot like I did. Especially with responding, "I don't know" to every question asked of him. What I do know, is that whatever emotion he is experiencing is valid. I know what it feels like to be raised in the environment; how lonely it can be, how miserable we feel inside, and how we long for connection that we can't explain. I just want him to know how sorry I am, how special he is, and that he deserves so much more than this world has given him.
