Familial Ties

Updated: Jun 2

Beyond the borders of origin's embrace

Lies a truth that time cannot erase

For it's not where you come from, I say

But where you find belonging along the way

The path to belonging may often be tough

A road winding, with challenges enough

But love knows no bounds, no genetic decree

It's defined by connections that set spirits free

Not confined by gender or societal molds

Love's essence transcends, beautifully unfolds

For in the tapestry of souls intertwined

Unconditional bonds are what we find

Familial ties may begin with blood

But the heart knows connections that flood

Through shared laughter, tears, and strife

We discover the true meaning of life

Belonging is found in the whispers of trust

The comfort of souls, in love's gentle gust

It's the warmth of embrace, in times of despair

The support of kindred spirits who truly care

So, let us shed the shackles of judgment's reign

Embrace the diversity, the love that remains

For it's not where you come from, I proclaim

But where you find belonging, where hearts aflame

In the tapestry of life, we're woven as one,

Connected by love, a journey begun

No matter your origin, your story untold,

Belonging is found where true connections unfold

Many of those I am biologically related to are not kind individuals due to long-standing family dysfunction spanning generations. Nonetheless, I’ve cultivated deep familial connections with individuals unrelated by blood, forming my chosen family where mutual choice and connection reign supreme.
